"Fluid-Structure interaction with OpenFOAM and OpenSees" using Hydro-UQ with Dr. Ajay B. Harish
"Live Expert Tips" with the NHERI SimCenter is a virtual event that touches on diverse aspects of simulation and modeling in Natural Hazards Engineering. In each session, a technical example will demonstrate features of SimCenter Tools relevant to research in natural hazards and the built environment. After the example, time is allocated for questions, answers, and discussion on the presented topic.

This session will introduce attendees to probabilistic fluid-structure interaction problems using OpenFOAM and OpenSees. In this regard, we will be using the Hydro-UQ tool that provides a user-friendly interface to use the seamless coupling between OpenFOAM-OpenSees-Dakota. In particular, we will discuss the design of experiments in the NHERI Coastal Wave/Surge and Tsunami Experimental Facility at Oregon State University and ways to obtain the non-destructive structural response of specimens subjected to wave loading.

About the presenter: Dr. Ajay B Harish is a postdoctoral scholar at the SimCenter since Jan-2020. He has a decade of experience in development of numerical methods and algorithms for solid and fluid mechanics problems. Prior to arrival at UC Berkeley, he obtained his Ph.D. at the Institute of Continuum Mechanics (Germany) and Masters in Aeronautics from Caltech. He has been the lead developer of the HydroUQ tool aimed at studying coastal hazards.
