"Ground Motion Selection & Scaling for Nonlinear Time History Analysis" using EE-UQ with Dr. Kuanshi Zhong
"Live Expert Tips" with the NHERI SimCenter is a virtual event that touches on diverse aspects of simulation and modeling in Natural Hazards Engineering. In each session, a technical example will demonstrate features of SimCenter Tools relevant to research in natural hazards and the built environment. After the example, time is allocated for questions, answers, and discussion on the presented topic.

This session will introduce how to use EE-UQ to select and scale ground motions for nonlinear time history structural analysis with two main objectives: (1) using criteria to control the earthquake characteristics of selected records (e.g., ASCE 7) and (2) exploring the influence of site and motion characteristics (e.g., site class, significant duration) on structural responses. Everyone is welcome to join with questions, comments, and requests for new features.

About the presenter: Kuanshi Zhong is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the NHERI SimCenter. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tongji University. His research interests include the behavior of reinforced concrete structures at high damage states, numerical simulation of fatigue and fracture, and statistical learning for structural response analysis.
